The new version 2008 of the map&guide routing system from PTV is said to be first to make user of the integrated Navteq Transport truck attributes layer, which was announced towards the end of last year.

The company says that users can now manage their vehicle fleet more efficiently by routing trucks away from low-clearance areas and streets in which trucks cannot manoeuvre. Additionally, a new mapping and routing engine is said to make the software more user-friendly.

Despatchers can see at a glance all road attributes that directly affect truck routing (tunnel heights or bans on hazardous goods, for instance). Information about roads closed to HGVs can be included in the routing and scheduling process. Parameters such as driving times and rest periods are also clearly displayed.

Whilst at heart at heart a route planning system, map&guide professional can also provide features such as appointment planning and vehicle scheduling, toll calculation and sequence and time slot optimisation.
